Department of Hydraulics operates as an independent unit since 1969. From the Department of settlements, there were many experienced and well-known scientists in the country, and hydraulic engineering specialists, such as Doc. K. Baškys, Doc. J. Duoba, Doc. V. Marčėnas, Doc. Dr. R. Alekna, D. Jankauskienė, J. Kunigėlis and others. Longtime department employee Doc. K. Baškys with Water Doc. V. Šulga prepared a very valuable English - Lithuanian hydro-technical glossary, which is 2000 published by Technical Publishing House.

Currently, the Department of Hydraulics - teaching and research work carried out by 11 people: professors - V. Šaulys, A. Lukianas, A. Česnulevičius, B. Čėsna, S. Vaikasas, docents - R. Pekus, L. Bagdžiūnaitė-Litvinaitienė, O. Barvidienė, R. Ruminaitė Lector, G. Sabas and student A. Litvinaitis. The last five persons- are the younger generation of scientists and educators. Department staff - professors V. Šaulys, A. Lukianas, S. Vaikasas, docents L. Bagdžiūnaitė-Litvinaitienė, O. Barvidienė and R. Ruminaitės scientific articles were published in foreign journals, and the professor. A. Česnulevičius of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) Theoretical cartography member of the commission since 2003., Prof. S. Vaikasas - Hydrology Science International Organisation (IAHS) since 2003. North hydrological Association (ANH) since 2003.
Research work carried out in line with the basic pedagogical work. Hydraulic Department employees participate in one of 10 priority research directions of the University - "Experimental and theoretical studies of environmental systems and environmental technologies", published scientific articles, reports to participate in scientific conferences.
